PRP for Hair Loss

Hair loss is a common condition that affects both men and women. There are many options for hair loss, including medical and surgical therapies PRP therapy is a medical treatment that has been shown to help restore thick, healthy hair. This therapy encourages the growth of your own hair, without surgery.

What Is PRP?

PRP stands for platelet-rich plasma, which is a vital component of human blood. Blood platelets contain a variety of nourishing ingredients, such as growth factors, which can stimulate the hair follicles to grow, restoring the normal hair growth cycle. At Foothills Dermatology in Tucson Arizona, we use PRP for skin rejuvenation as well as hair loss.

Are You a Candidate for PRP Hair Loss?

PRP for hair loss is a good option for people in the earlier stages of hair loss or for those who simply want to fill in areas of thinness. It is also important that you be in generally good health and have no blood conditions that would make the procedure unsafe.

How Does PRP Hair Loss Work?

PRP for hair loss begins with a standard blood draw. Once enough blood has been collected, it is processed in a centrifuge that separates the blood plasma from the other components of the blood.

Dr. Orlick then injects the platelet-rich plasma into your scalp using a small needle. There is minimal pain with the PRP injections and most patients tolerate the procedure well. You can expect to be in the office for approximately one hour and you can return to your normal activities right afterwards.

How Many PRP Sessions Are Needed?

Most patients see the most benefit from 3-4 sessions, performed one month apart. To maintain the results, an every six month treatment is recommended.

How Long Do Results From PRP Last?

The results of PRP for hair loss are not instant, but they can be dramatic. Most patients see their initial results develop after a few months, with full results appreciable by the 6-month mark. Results from PRP last at least a year. After your initial treatment cycle, you may wish to undergo routine maintenance treatments annually to hold on to your results.
